Mission Statement:

The Black Market Exchange is the first Star Trek Online Fan Site to premier a new concept for MMOs and how people utilize Auction Houses, i.e. “The Exchange”, during their gaming experience.  We at the BME feel that STO is lacking a community driven enterprise aimed at bringing players together, aside from the clutter and chaos of the Star Trek Online Forums.  As such, we shall endeavor to bridge this gap, and at the same time provide a useful gaming tool that shall enhance a gamers play style.  The Black Market Exchange focuses on two main categories of STO Economics: Item Performance and Bartering. 

Using the information obtained from The “Hot” List, players will be able to track and discuss a popular items performance for the week, month and even quarterly reports, and gauge what items are suitable for their gaming style.  New players to STO will be “in the know” as to what items they should be looking for during their game play, while also knowing what items they can splash onto a vendor for quick “EC”.  There will also be tips and guides available for players to learn how to work the exchange to trade and obtain greater profits.

The Bartering comes into play in two ways.  The in game chat channel offers players a real time place to post their goods, or search for an item they need. Should another “smuggler” happen to know a means to an end, the parties involved may then attempt to arrange a deal that can benefit both parties, rather than wasting hours of searching the exchange for an item you can’t find or can’t afford.  The Bulletin Boards, accessible via the website, offer another place to post your goods and intent, giving players 3 options to trade in STO, rather than just using the Auction House.

Goals:

• Building up the STO community by providing a means through which players can help regulate trade on the exchange and drive the game economy by using the information obtained on the BME.
• Provide a forum of discussion that is friendly and open to all Fleets and Factions (Fed and KDF) and also provide a space for fleets to advertise their fleet website and pull in potential new recruits & site hits.
• Provide real market analysis of Hot Items on the Exchange, keeping players informed on Rare and Popular Items to help fine-tune their game play experience.
• Provide an alternative source to trade your goods, both in game and the BME website, via the Bulletin Boards with an added % discount for being a BME trader.

In the Future:

• Provide weekly pod-cast business reports for the BME that will cover related News Topics and Index performance of the Exchange, all to add to your gaming experience.
• Provide a stock ticker that scrolls the daily performance of certain items, similar to the NYSE across the web page.
